Scribble Your Feelings!!

What is Scribble Therapy?

Well, it’s just a term I put together, to be honest. However, I then noticed that I am totally unoriginal and that others find scribbling therapeutic too - there’s even a tag for it (#scribbletherapy) on Instagram!

Basically, for me at least, scribbling can be a way of exploring our feelings without having to talk about it. Through this exercise we can find out how we really feel, and also, help that feeling develop and move forward.

So, how do I do it?

Easy!

1) Get a pen and paper. A packet of sharpies can be great, but a pen or pencil will do. If you’re really adventurous, you can use mixed media, like wool!

2) Focus in on how you feel, and then move the pen in a way that matches that feeling.

Important! Don't try to draw anything in particular. Just let the pen move in a way that matches the feeling. For example, if you feel angry, you might feel like putting more pressure in the pen, or poke the page. If sad, you might draw lines more gently.

3) Change the way you're scribbling as your feeling changes.

Remember: Don't try to draw anything in particular. Just scribble!

4) Keep going until you feel done.

Here are some I’ve done before! As you can see, the finished results can be very different from each other, and, even though we don’t deliberately try to create any particular shape, image, or figure, sometimes shapes and forms do spontaneously emerge!
